Nowadays the term "digital" seems to be how we define almost all things we interact with on a daily basis. Digital art is a concept that is fairly new and was messed around with a little in the 80s but first made its appearance in the 60s. Digital art is young, it's new and it's growing; but it is also stirring tons of debate within the art world. When we use the term digital art we are talking about art pieces created with electronic devices and software. Digital art opens the door to the evolution of art techniques and offers a new medium for artists to create. Also, these art pieces can be displayed to a global audience with just a few taps. In order to fully understand Digital Art we must understand where and how it began. The artistic mind is naturally eager to create new mediums for creative processes. With the access of computers and technology becoming so constant, creatives decided to explore the connection between art and technology. In the mid 1960s began when artists like Frieder Nake used their background in computer science to create artwork. At the time they used algorithms to create shapes and different layouts to lay on top of one another and create artistic pieces. The original purpose of digital art is to be an art form that is interactive, multimedia and evolving. So what exactly is digital art? Digital art is not seen as a movement, a trend or label. Digital art is something that simply goes with the flow. Digital art demands artists to know the traditional techniques of shapes, shadows and contrast, but also know the new skills of editing software and drawing tablet tools. Digital artwork is not confined but it is a wide spectrum of creations ranging from photos, videos, gifs, AI Artwork and animated graphics. Outside the hype of NFT's we see the true unique value of digital art and how technology can make art more accessible and easier to recognize creators work.
